Matthew Barratt, Matt to all that met him, passed away unexpectedly on April 7th. Matt was the “Golden Boy” of Paul & Cecelia Barratt. He was the loving, best husband to Erica Barratt and the daddy to two fur babies, Zena and Cash. Matt had 4 brothers: Nicolas, Jonathan, Derek, and Nathan. Matt grew up in Rochester and spent his youth terrorizing the neighborhood with all his friends. Matt also was the very best baseball and basketball player. When he wasn’t outside playing sports or with his friends, he was inside breaking Nintendo paddles and saying one more game so his brothers never got a turn.
Matt was the kindest soul, a hard worker, and a gentle giant. He was always willing to help and had a joke for everyone. He spent his adulthood sneaking in back doors in the dark, falling in dog poop, losing at cards, scaring people, and permanently scarring family and friend’s children. Matt did still have time to work and was an amazing golf course superintendent. Matt had mostly flawless grounds at Sakonnet Golf course. He had an amazing work family. They loved him especially when he got heavy equipment stuck and had to buy donuts for the whole crew. Matt will be missed by all who knew him and has left a gaping hole in all our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, Matt would love you to donate to a local animal shelter so he doesn’t have to see any more sad dog commercials.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 22, 2022 at 6 p.m. at the Sakonnet Golf Club, 79 Sakonnet Point Road, Little Compton, RI.
