Violet Nazareth Tracey

She was born on Nantucket to the late Manuel Vinho and the late Mary (Ferreira) Simms on December 31, 1925. Violet was a 1943 graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Boston University where she met her soon to be husband.

Violet and her late husband, Philip were well known for their human services work as a foster parents. Her volunteer work as a caregiver extended into her late eighties. She was a sales person at Sears in the Dartmouth Mall for 27 years until her retirement.

She was a lover of classical music and family. She made her house a home for all of her family and any others as well. In her later years “Vi” could often be found drinking her beloved coffee and eating a muffin with her partner Joe Constant at the Sunrise bakery.

She lived most of her life in South Dartmouth where she raised 5 children. Her son Kurt Tracey and daughter Gayla Cooper predeceased her. She is survived by her sons Michael Tracey and his wife Joan of Fairhaven, Christopher Tracey and his wife Katherine of Dartmouth and Sean Tracey and his wife Claudette of Hudson, NH and their families, including many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her aunt Olive Figuerido, her cousin Arthur Desrocher and his family, the loving family of her late son Kurt, as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews of whom she all adored.

Violet’s funeral will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary’s Church 795, Dartmouth St., Dartmouth.
