

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Alfred and Virginia (Grace) Sylvia, he spent his youth in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth almost 80 years ago.
Wally was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific. After serving Mr. Sylvia became a radio and tv repairman and later employed with the former Morse Twist Drill Company in New Bedford for many years before He would later become owner of his own Phillips 66 gas station on Bliss Corner in Dartmouth.
He is survived by his two daughters Sandra Farland of Dartmouth and Gale Correira of St. Petersburg, FL; three sons, Wallace “Tweety” Sylvia and his wife Jenny of Acushnet, Kenneth “Kenny” Sylvia of Dartmouth and Gary Sylvia of Acushnet; two sisters Muzzy Reynolds and Winona Barboza; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Wally was a friend to many throughout his long life and had many interests. An advocate of electric vehicles and wind powered generators Mr. Sylvia was ahead of his time. He loved to play his keyboard piano daily, a skill that he learned from his mother who taught piano and singing.
