

Yau Choi Wong, 85, of North Dartmouth, MA passed away on May 18, 2023. He was married to the late Shui Ling “Gloria” (Ng) Wong for nearly 44 years of marriage. He leaves behind a void of kindness and smiles for many that knew him.
Born in Canton, China, son of the late Moon York Wong and Yuet Wah (Chau) Wong where he immigrated to United States in 1962 with a letter of admittance and still in possession from former MA senator and United States president, John F. Kennedy and settled in North Dartmouth for 61 years ever since.
Mr. Wong worked and took over operations of York Wong restaurant on Rockdale Ave., New Bedford, MA, making countless friends from 1971 until finally retiring in 2002. Both older and younger generations have even recalled eating at this establishment with many fond memories of when he was there.
Choi was a world traveler with his beloved wife, Gloria going on cruises more than a dozen times exploring destinations in the Caribbean, the Middle East, Mexico, Canada and Alaska. Choi and Gloria also visited many continents including Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. His hobbies included cooking, baking, gardening, dancing, music, and enjoying social gatherings with all his friends at home or at the restaurant. He enjoyed spending time reading newspapers and magazines at the library, exercising by walking around the mall, WWE wrestling, and learning new recipes from YouTube videos. Upon retiring, he undoubtedly loved playing at various casinos with other retired friends. A selfless man, Choi made frequent charitable contributions to his hometown village in Guangdong province of China to help support building of infrastructure. Choi will be tremendously missed.
He is survived by his sister Judy (Wong) Corr and husband, Michael Corr of Dade City, FL, son Kevin Wong of Lynn, MA, Peter Wong and wife Qingqing Liu of Scarsdale, NY, and Anthony Wong and fiancée, Kelly Riek of La Mesa, CA, grandson Tyler Wong of Scarsdale, NY and many nephews and nieces.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 9-10 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Dartmouth Funeral Home, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a procession at the Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
