

Agnes was born and raised in South Dennis, MA. During the war years she lived for a brief time in Brooklyn, NY. After marrying her husband, the late John Lopes, she moved first to Providence and then Central Falls RI, where she raised two sons. In 1962 the family moved back to Cape Cod, where she was a long-standing parishioner of the Holy Trinity Church, in West Harwich.
Agnes is survived by her two sons Robert J. Lopes, daughter-in-law Kathleen of Redding, CT,Richardo R. Lopes and daughter-in-law Natalie of Brooklyn, NY and by her four grandchildren, Isabel, Christian, Giancarlo and Alessandro. Agnes is also survived by three sistersCecilia Monte of Hartsdale, NY, Sandra Anahory of Fairview, NJ and Shirley Leitao of Bacrest, TX, and one brother Theophilus Leyton of Nashua, NH, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Lopes, parents Theophilus and Beatrice Leyton, sisters Mary Paiva and Victoria Fonseca and brother Amos Leyton.
Visitation will take place at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660 (508-385-7116), on Thursday, October 25, from 4 PM – 7 PM.
A funeral will form on Friday, October 26, at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home at 10 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Cape Parish, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to HopeHealth - Hospice of Hyannis, MA.
