
West Yarmouth- Hilda (Schneider) Campion, age 84, beloved wife of 40 years to Francis D. Campion of West Yarmouth, passed away on December 8, 2012 after a long period of declining health. Born on March 30, 1928 in Lafayette Hills, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Anna Schneider. She graduated from St. Matthew’s High School in Conshohocken, PA and worked many years for Lees’ Carpet. She always remained in contact with her classmates and former coworkers.
Hilda and Francis began married life in King of Prussia, PA. They also made homes in Glenview, IL and Franklin, MA before retiring to East Dennis, MA. They made lifelong friendships along the way, with Hilda always the homemaker extraordinaire, fashionista and super shopper. Mrs. Campion was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cape Parish, where she was a member of the Ladies’ Guild. She enjoyed volunteering at their Thrift Shop for many years.
Besides her husband, Hilda is survived by her four nieces she helped raise with her brother, Bob Schneider; Patty Bruns and husband Bill of Gilbertsville, PA; Lizanne Woods of Garner, NC; Marion Keating and husband Tim of Mays Landing, NJ and Robin Riggins and husband Jim of Charleston, SC. She also leaves brothers-in-law Robert Campion of Brewster, MA and James Campion and wife Barbara of Yarmouthport, MA and many nieces and nephews.
Hilda was predeceased by her first husband, John McNamara, her sister Elizabeth Szmigiel, brother-in-law Sylvester Szmigiel, sister-in-law Barbara Schneider, and just recently her brother, Robert Schneider on November 29th of this year.
Visitation will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home on Route 134 in South Dennis, MA on Thursday, December 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Parish at 468 Stony Brook Road in Brewster, MA 02631. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cape Memorial Fund or to Disabled American Veterans (DAV Memorial Program, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301). Private burial at Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne.
