

Brewster- John “Jack” T. Haney, Jr 98, passed away peacefully, September 24, 2015 at Epoch of Brewster.
Jack was born May 15, 1917, to John T. Haney, Sr and Maud (Murphy). Jack grew up in New London, CT. He was a graduate of Cheshire Academy in 1936 and a graduate of Yale University in 1940.
After college, Jack entered the Military (Army) and rose to the rank of Major working at the Pentagon in Washington during WWII. While stationed at the Pentagon, Jack met the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Bauman. They married in 1945 and moved to Connecticut where Jack was employed by General Motors. He and Joan raised their family in Manchester, CT. After taking an early retirement from General Motors, Jack followed his lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. He experienced ten wonderful years as a middle school Social Studies teacher in Ashford, CT.
After retirement in 1980, Jack and Joan moved to their home in Brewster. Jack continued his lifelong interest in boating and reading. He was an avid photographer and he loved designing and building model airplanes both gliders and remote control. He was a member of the Brewster Historical Society and served as a docent at the Brewster Windmill. Jack was also an active member of Our Lady of the Cape Church and served as an usher until the age of ninety.
Jack is predeceased by his wife Joan. He is survived by his son John T. Haney the 3rd and his wife Mary of Portsmouth, NH; daughter Joan and her husband Timothy Hogan of Brewster, MA; son Peter Haney of Raleigh, NC; daughter Cynthia and her husband David Desmond of Kingston, MA; and daughter Claudia Brown of Glastonbury, CT. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will gather for a Memorial Mass at 11:00am on October 2, 2015 at Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster.
