

Born on September 14,1930 in Cambridge MA, Jack was a man of exceptional strength, kindness and wit. A veteran of the Korean War, Jack was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for his heroic service as an Ordnance Man with the 73rd AAA Gun Battalion. Returning to Massachusetts, Jack later became the Water Superintendent for the City of Somerville, MA. He retired to Cape Cod in 1994 after 40 years living in Somerville and nearby Medford. He was a dedicated Knight of Columbus and faithful parishioner at Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster.
Jack was a devoted husband to Marian “Susie” (Gunning) for 62 years and was an involved and caring father, grandfather and uncle. His many interests included antiquing and gardening; he had a green thumb for vegetables and flowers. He will be forever remembered for his quick wit and gentle kindness. Jack truly enriched the lives of everyone he met.
Jack is survived by his daughter Ellen (James) Zanino, his grandchildren Katherine and James Zanino, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marian, as well as his brothers Francis, Joseph, James, and Patrick and his sisters Catherine and Margaret.
Visiting hours will be held 5-7 pm on Friday, April 10th at Doane Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11th at 10 am at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd, Brewster, MA 02631. Burial with US Army military honors will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis, MA where Jack will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Marian.
