WEST DENNIS — Leicester S. Johnston Jr., of West Dennis, formerly of Natick, MA, passed away May 21, 2014. Beloved husband of Joan Kelly Johnston since 1951; devoted father of Leicester S. Johnston 3rd and his wife, Carol; Cheryl Wildermuth and her husband, Peter; Lynne Love and her husband, John; brother of June Megathlin; cherished grandfather of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces.
Leicester was born in Melrose, MA. He was a graduate of Williams College, Class of 1945, and Boston University School of Medicine, Class of 1947. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Johnston was a general surgeon on the staff of Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick for 48 years.
A member of the U.S. Army and Massachusetts National Guard for over 30 years, Dr. Johnston served as a lieutenant colonel and battalion surgeon in the 101st Infantry Division of the Guard.
He was a charter member and past commodore of the West Dennis Yacht Club and an active and enthusiastic member since 1959.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a funeral service to follow at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be donated to the West Dennis Library or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168
