Sally was born on December 26, 1946 in Brockton, MA to Raymond and Greeta Swanson. She grew up in Brockton with her brother and two sisters and spent many summers with her grandparents and other family clamming, going to the beach, and eating ice cream on Cape Cod—a special place she would later call home.
Sally received her bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State and began her teaching career which took her to Maryland and Virginia. After moving to Rhode Island with her young family, Sally and her first husband settled in Middletown, New York, where she taught first grade at Memorial Elementary and J.W. Chorley Elementary for more than 20 years. After becoming a single mother, Sally continued her education at SUNY New Paltz, earning a Master’s Degree in Education. Teaching was a true passion for Sally and her inquisitive nature led her to be a lifelong learner as well.
After retiring from teaching in 2009 Sally realized her dream of living on Cape Cod, buying a house in Dennis, MA with her husband Lou. Some of her favorite activities in retirement were hosting family and friends at her Cape house, relaxing and looking for shells on the beach, enjoying ice cream at the Sundae School or a lobster roll from Sesuit Harbor Cafe, and attending concerts and plays in Chatham.
Sally was unapologetically sentimental, profoundly spiritual, and steadfast in her beliefs and involvement in the lives of her family and friends (and their friends, and their families). She genuinely cared about the people she knew and the people they knew.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Lou Lombardi of South Dennis, MA, children Jessica Lewis (John) of Austin, TX, Keith Huffman of Sidney, NY, Dave Huffman (Alyssa) of Leander, TX, grandchildren Kash Maidens, Kiersten Huffman, Vada Huffman, Miles Huffman, great-grandchild Callen Sullivan, sisters Ann Prosper of Sandwich, MA, and Chris Pomeroy of Assonet, MA, stepdaughter Michele Lombardi, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Sally was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5-8pm at the Garibaldi Club, 36 Castle St, Plymouth, MA 02360. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please direct tribute donations in Sally’s name to charities that serve children or a meaningful charity close to your heart.
