Sheila Ann (Sullivan) Flood (81) passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024 at her home in West Dennis, MA. Sheila, the oldest of four daughters, was born on April 22, 1943 in Watertown, MA to the late Richard and Edith (Caruso) Sullivan. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School and Mass Bay Community College.
Sheila was married to her loving husband James Kenneth Flood for 38 years. Together, they raised their two children in Belmont, MA before retiring to Cape Cod in 2001. Sheila loved to host. Whether it was her friends, a family BBQ, or opening her home to her grandson’s and their friends for a week long summer vacation, Sheila loved bringing people together.
Sheila was an avid reader who loved trivia, crossword puzzles, card games, and was known to enjoy a heaping scoop of ice cream. Her quick mind made her a fierce competitor in games and debates. Sheila was blessed to have a wonderful circle of friends with whom she spent time participating in book clubs, wine tasting, stitch in chat, Monday card group, game nights, and even became a lover of golf (Jim would have been proud). When not on the Cape, Sheila spent many of her golden years traveling to different locations around the world collecting and sharing memories with those closest to her.
Sheila is survived by her son Peter Flood of Dennis, MA, daughter Diane (Flood) Lepikko (husband Jeffrey Lepikko) of Stowe, VT, her beloved grandsons Noah, Aaron, and Liam. She is also survived by her sisters Pauline McDowell, Rosemary Smith (husband Paul), Anne Levine (husband Alan), Maureen Sullivan (partner John Bell), as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband James Kenneth Flood, her parents Richard and Edith Sullivan, and brother in law Charles McDowell.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Maureen Gropman, Linda McPartlan, Beacon Hospice, and Mbrace Home Care Services for their care and companionship. You helped bring Sheila comfort during her final stage of life and we can’t thank you enough.
A Celebration of Sheila's life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. There will be a brief service at 4:00 PM.
