William Whalen, 63, of Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 23, 2025 after a courageous 9 month battle with Esophageal Adenocarcinoma. Born on August 10, 1961, in Northampton, Massachusetts, Bill lived a life defined by hard work, passion, and unwavering devotion to his family.
A graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 1979 and as he would often say, also a graduate of the "school of hard knocks" Bill forged his own path with grit and determination. After serving in the United States Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune, he spent several years driving cross-country delivering goods and furniture. His time on the road reflected his adventurous spirit and tireless work ethic.
An entrepreneur at heart, Bill returned to Cape Cod where he learned the trade of carpet and vinyl flooring installation under the guidance of Richie Vanek. In 1984, he launched his own carpet and vinyl installation business. A year later, he met Lisa—the love of his life—and together they became an unstoppable team. While Bill envisioned each new step forward, Lisa crunched the numbers to make those dreams a reality.
In 1986, they purchased the ChemDry carpet cleaning franchises for their area. Bill’s dedication to his clients was unmatched; he always gave his best to every job. When helping a customer with a flooded basement sparked a new idea, Bill pursued further training and founded Whalen Restoration Services. With Lisa by his side, they built the company into a thriving business that continues to serve the community today.
Bill's passions extended far beyond his professional life. A lifelong Chevy and Harley enthusiast, he built several award-winning custom Harleys over the years. His love for classic Chevys—especially '55s and '57s—was legendary among those who knew him. Many days were spent tinkering in his garages with what Lisa affectionately called “his girls.” He shared this passion with his son Daniel; together they enjoyed countless days at the track drag racing their cars.
Music was another cornerstone of Bill’s life. An accomplished drummer and self-taught guitarist, he found joy in practicing and expanding his riffs in his music room. He and Lisa shared a love for live music and traveled often to see their favorite artists perform.
Above all else, Bill loved his family fiercely. For forty years, Lisa was not only his partner in business but also in life—a bond built on mutual respect and deep affection. He was a devoted father to Jessica Whalen and Daniel Whalen; their achievements were always met with pride from their biggest cheerleader. Whether offering advice or simply being present as a shoulder to lean on, Bill never missed an event or opportunity to support those he loved. He earned and wore proudly the title of #1.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife Lisa, his daughter Jessica and son Daniel, his parents Richard and Marianne Whalen; siblings Michael Whalen and wife Christina, James Whalen and wife Pam, and Wendy Whalen and husband Jerry Pfuntner; brother-in-law Kevin Lynch and wife Lee Warner and by countless others whose lives were touched by his generosity and spirit.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Alyce Lynch
