Lee Curtis Abby was born April 2, 1940, to Leroy and Hettie Abby in Hazlehurst, MS. He attended Hall’s Hill, Mount Hope and Parrish High Schools in Hazlehurst, MS. Curtis, as he was fondly known, attended Hall’s Hill M.B. Church, in Hazlehurst, MS, during his early years. As an adult he attended services at Light Ministries in Los Angeles and attended services with his life partner at New Seasons Church in Bellflower, CA.
Curtis worked in LA County at North America and June Kendall’s Maintenance Company and at American Guard Services in Carson, CA.
Curtis married Sallie Tate in 1962. To this union 3 children were born. Renita, Melinda and Lorne. The couple divorced in 1972.
Curtis was proceeded in death by his mother and father: Leroy and Hettie Abby; Sister: Lora McGhee, Brother: Eddie Fred Abby, the mother of his 3 children: Sallie Morgan, and Granddaughter: Robin Williams.
Curtis leaves to mourn: his life partner, Sonya McLaurin, Sons: Lorne (Karen) and Curtis Abby; Daughters: Renita and Melinda Kay Abby; Stepsons: Jimmy and David McLaurin. Stepdaughters: Elena Rodriguez and Jenine Moreno; Brothers: John, Larnell (Donna), Henry, James (Mary), Jerome (Carolyn), and Kennith (Joann) Abby; Sisters: Laura Potter, Edna Cole, Verlina (Luther) Moore, Shelia Abby and Wanda Johnson. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Curtis enjoyed life to its fullest. He enjoyed good health and the company of family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with family while listening to the blues, playing cards and telling jokes.
You will always hold a special place in our hearts, Curtis. Rest in Peace.
