

Passed away at age 99 on April 14, 2014. Loving husband of 75 years to Leona and father to daughters Susan Buchholz and Carol Woerfel. Grandfather to Jeffrey Buchholz (Kelli), Eric Buchholz (Jill), and Adam Brzozowy. Great grandfather to Ryan, Alex, Avery, Emma and Nathan. Further survived by nephews, nieces, other family members and friends.
Richard served in the Navy during WWII and taught Industrial Arts at Cudahy High School for 38 years.
As a golf coach, his teams won two Suburban Conference Championships and qualified eight times for state meets. He built his own home in Cudahy and summer cottage in Door County, making much of his own furniture as a skilled woodworking craftsman. He continued making turned wooden bowls for his customers until his death. Richard’s passions after his family were golf, golf, golf and bowling. He was a longtime member of St Mark’s Church and Grant Park Senior Men’s Club and was inducted into the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame and the Door County Baseball Hall of Fame.
Visitation on Tuesday April 22 at St Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3515 E. Van Norman Ave in Cudahy from 10am to 12. Funeral service at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mark’s Church or American Cancer Society. Private burial will be held at Blossomberg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park.
