Harry was born in New Castle, PA, on December 17, 1929, and is the son of the late Wesley and Margaret Campbell. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Navy where he proudly served as Machinist Mate on the S.S. Purvis for four years during the Korean War. In recognition of his outstanding service, he earned the Navy Occupation Service Medal for his expertise in servicing mechanical equipment.
Harry met the love of his life Marjorie “Marge” Carter when he was on leave from the Navy and stayed with Marge’s brother, Richard. They wed on July 19, 1952, and began their new life together in New Castle, PA. In 1963, they relocated to Hamilton Square, NJ, where they raised their family and created many happy memories. Their journey together is a true love story as Marge joined Harry in eternal life on April 17, just three days after his passing.
A man of remarkable work ethic, Harry was employed by Johnson & Johnson where he worked for 38 years. He was a talented machinist who could fix anything and in recognition of his mechanical genius was awarded an Engineering Award for Outstanding Service.
Harry enjoyed spending time in LBI on his Mako fishing boat and going on cruises with Marge and many of their friends. After spending winters in Florida, he and Marge relocated there full-time in 2008. In April of 2022, they returned to NJ to be with family. They will be missed by the many friends they made along the way.
Harry’s greatest achievement, pride and inspiration were his family. He is survived by his children, Gary, and his wife Barb; Mark, and his wife Diana; and David, and his wife Gail. Harry was a beloved grandfather to five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Wesley Campbell, his wife Annah and their children Isabella, Aubrey, Abigail and Logan; Amy Gregoire and her children Lucas and Harrison; Ryan Campbell, his wife Christy and their son Mason; Alex Campbell and his partner Lanie; and Christopher and his wife Rachel.
To honor Harry’s dedication to the military, the family is requesting that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at dogood.t2t.org.
As we bid farewell to our beloved parents, we are honoring their wish for a private memorial service with military honors. We appreciate the kind words and support provided to our family during this difficult time.
