Whether sitting with her family at dinner, meandering through the social hall of her church, or sharing the space of a table in the workshop, Jenni’s presence was felt. Simply put, her joyful personality and her love of life filled the room. Even if you didn’t see her, you knew she was there; for many, she was the spirit of the Morton’s of Surrey Road.
Jennifer Lynn Morton was born sixth into a brood of five siblings but left behind a much larger group of people who would call her sister and daughter. Basically, if you knew Jenni, you were grafted in the branches of her tree and she called you “mine”. She had a special set of code names for her people. “Zig” was one and “Bucco” was another name given to her and returned back by family and others. You’re my “brudder” she would say as if she affectionately owned you. Others would call her determined, focused, and maybe stubborn; regardless she was a force to be reckoned with. While mentally strong she was physically tough too, and on some occasions, she would give you a hug that would lift you off your feet. In her youth, Jenni’s athleticism won medals for her swimming and bowling later in life. And she was proud of her hardware.
While some might say she was willful, she was playful, witty, and humorous. Jenni was a delight. She loved her music and TV shows; Michael Jackson’s Thriller was an all-time favorite. For those of us who were close to her, we had our own favorite story. Even if it was her call to 911 for a tummy ache or witnessing her participate in an act of civil disobedience at the workshop, it seemed Jenni had her own agenda. Frankly put, she had her own way of being in the world where most everyone was her friend. In her actions and with her personality, she had the capacity to change others, especially her neighbors. More than once would she walk uninvited into their homes take up a seat and engage in conversation. She needed people and we needed her.
Jenni was born in Harrisville Pennsylvania in 1970 but grew up most of her life in Warminster and Bucks County. She received a diploma from William Tennent High School and Certificate from Bucks County Intermediate Unit. While much of her life was in residence at her family home, her second home was with the community of BARC (Bucks County Association for Retarded Citizens). For a few years, she lived at Pueblo House in Chalfont and for the last eighteen years of her life, she lived with her second family at Chubb House in Doylestown.
Jennifer is survived by her brothers Jonathan, Joel, Jeffrey, and James, her sister Maribeth, her nieces and nephews Brittney, Mathew, Cayla, Ian, Caroline, Steven, Rebekah, Hannah, David, Catherine, Nate, Lincoln, and Scarlett. Jenni joined her parents George and Ruth in the arms of her heavenly father.
