

Samuel E. Torrey died on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the Southampton Estates. He was 90 years of age. Born in Newton, MA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Florence Middlemas Torrey. Samuel had lived at the Estates for the last 15 years and had previously lived in Feasterville for 45 years.
Samuel was the beloved husband of Mabel Smith Torrey for 64 years. He was the devoted father of Deborah S. Torrey of Oxford, Ct, Judith A. Catalano (George) of Orange, CT, and David A. Torrey (Sara) of Balston Spa, NY. He was the loving grandfather of Joshua and Jacob Torrey, and Catherine Catalano. He was the brother of the late Barbara Hall.
Mr. Torrey was a retired electrical engineer with the Department of the Army at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia and in Fort Monmouth, NJ. Samuel was involved in the development of the Apache Helicopter. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving in in the European Theater.
Samuel was a former member and Trustee the Bustleton United Methodist Church in Philadelphia. He was active in volunteer work both at Church and at the Southampton Estates.
He enjoyed playing cards and was a Bridge enthusiast and instructor. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reciting poetry.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 20th at the auditorium of the Southampton Estates, 238 Street Road, Southampton, PA 18966.
