She grew up in Manheim PA, a borough of Lancaster County. Debra received her BA from Wheaton College in IL., her MSSA from Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences in Cleveland, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA.
She is survived by her most beloved partner Martha Webb, Phd. They worked together at D.L. Dunkle and Associates, providers of Counseling, Mental Health and Personal Coaching services in Cleveland Heights. She was a practicing therapist for over 30 years with a special interest in services to members of the LGBT community and was a faculty member of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. Debra lived her life with gusto and was passionate about experiencing adventure, new places and new people. She loved many activities including scuba diving, riding motorcycles, singing in choruses, sports of all kinds, and music. She was an enthusiastic member of the Cleveland Aquatic Team and was very proud of the medals she earned at the Gay Games last summer, where she also participated in the GG9 Chorus. She was a member of The Land Project and always enjoyed her time in nature at the land and with the group. And she also loved watching her nieces and nephews grow up. Debra is survived by her mother Ellen Dunkle Huber of Lancaster, PA, brothers Jeffery Dunkle (Carrie) and John Dunkle (Suzanne), and many adored nieces, nephews, their partners and children. She is survived by Marty's niece Allison Chadra Wyks (Dan) and nephew Charles Ellis (Ashley) and their families and she will be missed by many dear friends, especially those in the Lesbian community. Her father Donald D. Dunkle, MD and step-father Robert Huber pre-deceased her.
A Celebration of her Life will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 28, 2015 in the Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple. Memorial donations may be made in Debra's name to the LGBT Center of Cleveland, the Shaker Lake Nature Center, Chevrei Tikva Memorial Fund at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, or a charity of your choice.
