I think of her all the time. She was such fine , fine person.

Dinah was a very outgoing person.  Never saw her without a smile.  Wish I had taken the time to know her better.  Know she will be greatly missed in our neighborhood.  We are so sorry for your loss.

When I think of Dinah, John Denver's song "Perhaps Love" comes to mind:  Perhaps love is like a resting place, A shelter from the storm. It exists to give you comfort, It is there to keep you warm. And, then in times of trouble, When you are most alone, the memory of love will bring you home. Perhaps love is like the ocean, Full of conflict, full of change, Like fire when it's cold outside, Or thunder when it rains. If I should live forever, And all my dreams come true, My memories of love will be of you.  Thank you, Dinah, for your friendship and your beautiful "light" in this world.

I first met Dinah in the summer of 1999, when I arrived at UNCW as an international exchange student from The University of Hull in England. The Human Resources Department had very kindly agreed to 'host' an international student for their time at UNCW, and I was the lucky student who was selected to have the HR team as my 'host family'. Dinah became my friend, and that friendship continued to the present day. I will always remember Dinah's kindness, and her warm welcome every time I used to call in at the HR office. Dinah would greet me with 'Hey James!' and a great big smile. 

Having left UNCW to return to England at the end of the academic year in 2000, I have returned to Wilmington (and Southport) many times, both independently and with family members. I have such fond memories of Dinah and I walking on Caswell Beach, collecting shells, and our visits to see where she loved doing her pottery and to the art gallery. We also had many great times, and lovely meals at local restaurants, including a trip to 'Bojangles' for breakfast! Dinah and Ed were always so generous with their friendship, and we often stayed with them for a while when visiting from the UK. On a recent stay, Dinah cooked us her classic southern dish 'Chicken Pastry' which we loved, and her gift to us when we left was a local southern cookbook, so we could bring a little bit of the south home to the UK with us. We would take walks down to the dock and waterway, and often sit outside on the back deck just talking. Such fond memories and happy times.

We will miss Dinah so very much. We will miss her kindness, her fantastic sense of humour, her love and friendship. However, we feel so thankful and fortunate that Dinah was part of our lives, and that we had the joy of having her as our friend. 

Thank you for everything Dinah.

Dinah & Karen were such special cousins to Mel and Ben, shown here as flower girls in their wedding in Arba, NC.  Countless more memories are remembered and cherished, living on in us all that knew and loved them. 

I met Dinah when I first started at a Orange St pottery, 10 years ago now. A sweeter, caring, friendlier person I have yet to meet. A great sense of humor, a talented artist, a gentle soul. A person I was happy to know and care about.  I will miss her and her wonderful smile. It would brighten any room. 

I met Dinah when she joined the Associated Artist of Southpport.  I got to know her better when we  drove to Wilmington to take pottery from Don Johns. There were many laughs and good times to remember.  Dinah had a radiant smile she used often. Everyone who knew Dinah was a reciptent of the smile.  My husband could not remember all my artist friend's names. He called her Smiley.  It is hard to forget someone who gave so much to remember. RIP Smiley.




I had the pleasure of meeting Dinah and Ed several years ago. Dinah was such a loving person, she would always give me a hug when she would see me and always asked how I was doing.  I will miss those hugs and conversation as she genuinely cared about everyone she met. You will be missed Dinah. 

Dinah was definitely my BFF. Dinah was a loyal,beautiful and caring friend and I will always cherish the wonderful friendship we had. she loved her sons and her daughter and her dear husband Ed. I really loved making her laugh, and can hear her now . God bless her always. Thank you for being my friend!!!!!!

Dinah, my dear friend, was one of a kind, with her own unique style, fun-loving and exceedingly witty.  I have many wonderful memories of Dinah, especially when we both worked in HR at UNCW and ate lunch together every day.  We each brought a little post-it where we had written things we wanted to talk about—there were so many. So much laughter.  She was a joy to be around. 

I cherish the many pottery objects that Dinah made for me after she retired. I look at them every day and will remember her always.

My sympathies to her loving husband, Ed, and her children and grandchildren and many other friends.   I miss you, girlfriend. 

Dinah was a  wonderful woman who will be missed greatly in this world...

I lived near Dinah and her family in Kinston when I was in grammar school.  I was in dance class with her at Jackie Hale Howell dance school,  Girl Scouts and we walked to school together and to Emma Webb Park for various activities.  I have wonderful childhood memories.  My family moved from Kinston to Burlington in 1955.  I remember attending Harvey Elementary and briefly, Grainger High School (7th grade).  Dinah was a sweet young girl and I will remember her always.  Godspeed, old friend.  You were loved by so many,  My sincere sympathy to Ed and your family, Molly Wrape Newton
