Hard to believe you’re no longer with us my friend. It was always a pleasure to run into you around town. I will never hear Stevie Ray Vaughan, and not think of you.. I’m sure you’re getting a personal concert  now. Until we meet again, my friend God bless.

George and I were together for 4 yrs in the early to mid-Eighties. He totally turned me on; so very charming and fun and smart. As well, had never listened much to The Tubes or Frank Zappa before.

We wd go dancing often, we’d cook Brunswick stew in the 3-legged iron cauldron. Take many shots of Lord Calvert around the fire, just outside our apmt.

Ultimately, “Gorgeous George” imagined a small town/low key existence. I wanted to go back to university (UNC-CH) to study Art History and German literature, and travel extensively, before settling into some sort of professorship gig.

Accomplished a bit of all of that. Plus 2 marriages and no children. Content-mostly-living here in Chapel Hill. I LOVED George. I’ve missed him for decades. Why did we insist upon hurting each other?

Even though we didn’t get to see each other as much as we did in younger years, you will always be one of my favorite cousins.  Tell Aunt Barbara and Uncle Bruce hello for me up there in heaven. I loved you like a brother. So sorry things turned out like they did. Things we don’t understand, but we all have to answer for our sins.   You will be missed along with your crazy sense of humor. Sincere condolences to family and friends who are saddened by his death. I haven’t seen George since 1976 but he had the biggest heart, best smile, and could always make you laugh.  This picture is from 1975 in Virginia with Eddie McDermott and myself when we were moving to Florida. God Bless them.

Always a big smile and hug for me at our yearly racetrack meet ups- he always had that smile- those dimples-we had a good 40 years of that yearly time together and I am thankful for every time- you just never know when it will be the last- smile on Georgie- peace my friend 💜

George was always eager to have a conversation and ready with his dimpled smile!  
His advice for me included; how to be a faster swimmer, always wear the color blue and during the 1980's, how to improve the infield of the Middleton Park ball field!  For Steve, George always had compliments on the positive things he did to improve Long Beach/Oak Island.  And suggestions as well!

Very sorry about George. He was a great guy and a great friend. We have shared many wonderful times. He was a pleasure to be around and I miss him already. God Bless Him!  

It wasn’t a month ago or so I asked Leta to give me his phone number, — to catch up after all these years — but never called him… too little, too late and for that, I’m sad.  Sad for missed opportunity to share stories from 7th grade Mr. Millis class as we sat next to each other. Sad about his untimely death. Shy and so cute. All the girls had a crush on him; including me. And those dimples… lost but not forgotten. ❤️🙏

My friend George and I first met in the 6th grade when he and his family moved to Saratoga and we stayed very close friends all these years. From skipping high school when the Eat a Peach album by Allman Bros came out, to living together in Florida, to meeting at the racetrack in August. We had many laughs that I will always remember. To all of his family and many friends, my sincere condolences. God bless you Georgie Dares! You will be missed.

I will always remember meeting GR for the first time at my dear friend Susi's  he was handsome ,funny ,and we had a great time. Over the years GR would call me on holidays and birthdays. always kind and always wanted to know about me and my family.He will be sadly missed. God Bless you GR

I have know George for over 60 years . He we was a good friend and wonderful person. He always had a smile on his face and a good word for me (and anyone else for that matter) when we would meet in Saratoga.

I was so saddened to hear of his passing, I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his family and to his many, many friends. I know he will be greatly missed.

It would be impossible for me to pick just a memory or two of the hundreds I have of George Robert. It has been over  a lifetime.  We simply had the best of times when he was at his best….I will cherish the memories and miss the birthday calls…he never forgot. Godspeed Georgi….keep the music playing and I will keep your memory in my heart

George was a wonderful friend, we met in the early 80's and had become very close friends ever since.  George's love for sports and music couldn't be matched. We worked together for many years in construction and enjoyed having some pops and listening to tunes, usually very loud! My friend  was very witty and payed very close attention to every detail.  He had many friends and was very likeable. Over the years George had become part of my family, he never missed a birthday or Christmas, with either a card or a call.  We always joked together about his many alias's. below are a few, I loved everyone of them, well almost all of them. He will be greatly missed!

I am still reeling from the loss of George.  He was my good friend and neighbor right down the street.  He has left a hole that can never be filled.  I love you my brother, save me a seat.

Very sad to hear of George's passing. He was  a great guy who loved to have a good time. Many fond memories growing up with George in Saratoga. Remember sneaking down front at SPAC with George to see Janis Joplin up close. May he rest in peace.

I met George back in 1993 at the Oar House. He was a big Giant fan and I am a Jet fan so we struck up a conversation. Later that afternoon we ended back at his place watching music videos. His passion for good music became quite evident when he put some Stevie Ray Vaughan on. Over the years I would get a phone call before opening day or an important Jet game.  I am deeply saddened to know I won’t be getting those calls any longer. . God bless you my friend . Oak Island lost one of its true originals . 

I’ve known “The George” since 1976. Too many fun times and good memories to know where to begin in sharing them. So I’ll simply say farewell buddy. I’ll join you in the throne room soon!

I met George while working at the Gallery back in 92 and we have been great friends ever since. Up until recently he would love to come for Tacos at my business called Chasers. Everytime I seen him he always gave me a smooch.  I will miss my friend very much. Tell Ricky I miss him too and y'all rock it out 🎸!! Until we meet again. 

So Sad to Hear of George's Passing.  I Am So Glad I Saw Him A Few Days And Got  Me A Hug.He Was Always So Nice To Me . He Will Be Missed... 

I am still shaking my head in disbelief that George is no longer with us. The shock and sadness of his unexpected passing would be over-whelming - except for the many great memories I have of George. He was truly a unique person, and a loyal trusted friend. At times like this I take great comfort in knowing that George is now in the loving care of the savior and redeemer of all mankind.
