She raised her three daughters in Riverside, CT and then enjoyed 30+ years in Savannah, GA with her husband, Kenneth Loel Johnson, where they were both instrumental in the fundraising and leadership of The Village Library at The Landings. Her final years were spent at Porters Neck Village in Wilmington, NC. She was an avid reader and fan of black and white movies with a carefully curated collection of books and DVDs.
Mrs. Hartwell was preceded in death by husband Ken Johnson and sister Shirley Hartwell.
She is survived by daughters, Leslie Wurst (Bradley), Sharon Crossman and Wendy Chauncey; grandchildren, Melissa Crossman (Ben Eassa) and Sarah Crossman Frizzell (Wyatt); great-grandson, Gordon Scott Frizzell; sister, Alice Kalamar; and a niece Amanda Kalamar.
