We gather today to mark the passing of John Everett Edwards, a father, grandfather, husband, son, and brother. He was born with a gentle spirit and a smile that could light up a room.
John lived an adventurous life that was shaped by many experiences and he left a lasting impression on those around him. He never met a stranger. He shared connections with family, friends, and others whose lives intersected with his own. Over the years John enjoyed surfing in Virginia Beach and Hatteras NC. He was a Cub Scout and loved camping. His love of history fueled his metal detecting adventures in Fort Fisher & other locations in the southern United States. John will be missed by family and friends alike.
He is survived by his family, wife, Marcy Marie Callais; children, Leahnè Elyse Edwards, Karma Londyn Callais; children from previous marriage, Derek Custer Edwards, Ryan Cooper Edwards (Samantha), Shelby Alana Esch (Jonathan); grandchildren, Oliver Michael Esch, Nicholas Clark Edwards; siblings, Robin Lynn Fisher (Jonathan), Charles Keith Midgette (Wayne), Deborah Edwards Shirley (Brian).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Cooper Edwards; and father, Robert D. Edwards Jr.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Sonrise Baptist Church, 8375 River Road SE, Southport, North Carolina, 28461.
