Karen Sawonik

Karen was born on October 8, 1947, daughter of the late Richard and Dolores Farr. She was a graduate of Regina Highschool in South Euclid, Ohio and Bowling Green State University. Karen started off her career as an account analyst and worked her way up to become Director of Operations for a major medical equipment manufacturer in Cleveland, Ohio. Married to Ronald in 1978, Karen had two children (Mike and Daniel) and loved to travel, camp, and spend time outdoors and on the water. With her love of the water and ocean, Karen dreamed of retiring down near the coast and made that dream a reality in late 2014 when she moved to Bolivia, NC. An avid dog lover, Karen loved to paint and cook, getting involved with art and culinary groups in Southport, NC.

She is survived by her husband Ronald Sawonik; two sons, Michael Sawonik and wife Alexie, and Daniel Sawonik and wife Michele; two granddaughters, Mikayla Sawonik and Brianna Sawonik; and three brothers Rick Farr and wife Sharon, Dennis Farr and wife Kerri, and Kevin Farr.

A celebration of her life will be held at Water Tower Wines on June 5, 2026 from noon to 2:00 pm.
