

He was born in Willimantic, CT on August 10, 1936, son of the late John and Mary Slowik. Mike spent his early years surrounded by family who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness and resilience. Mike married Joan on December 31, 1960 at St. Joseph’s Church in Willimantic, where he was a lifelong member.
He was a Private First Class US Army Veteran and worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Following retirement, he and Joan relocated to Oak Island, NC, where he enjoyed long walks on the beach, gardening, and cooking Polish recipes. A hard worker with a quiet strength, humorous, kind, caring and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his children, Janice (Larry) Mooney, Mick (Kathy) Slowik, Jonathan (Kerry) Slowik and his grandchildren, Ashley (Nelson) Pereira, Gregory (Lucrezia) Mooney, Laura (Ryan) Bergeron, Matthew Slowik, Taylor (Jordan) McKeithen, and Kiersten (Austin) Page. He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren, JP and Camila Pereira, Seth and Lydia Mooney, Logan, Erin and Elliot Bergeron, and Isla Rose McKeithan. He is also survived by his brother Donald Slowik and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, his brothers, John and Edward, and his sisters, Lucy and Eleanor.
His family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Burial will immediately follow at the Cape Fear Memorial Park cemetery in Southport.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Hospice nurses and wonderful caregivers at The Landings of Oak Island who gave Mike genuine love and care.
