Patty O'Byrne

Patty Gertrude O’Byrne of Southport, North Carolina passed away on May 30th, 2016 at the age of 83. She will be missed dearly by her loving family and many wonderful friends who cherished her generous and lively spirit.

Patty was preceded in death by her longtime companion Howard Heuschkel, who passed away November, 2015; daughter Suzanne, sister and brother and law, Barbara and Richard Penny and brother in law John D. McGourthy.

Patty, is survived by her son, John O’Byrne (Kim) of Lakewood, CO; daughter, Beth O’Byrne (Ron) of Andover, MA; daughter, Trish Wright of Oak Island, NC, and three grandchildren Kalyn, Heidi and Michael. She also leaves behind three sisters who meant the world to her; Sue Burg (John) of FL, Judy McGourthy of WI, and Kathy Conte (Jim) of NC and Howards loving family, including; two sons, John Swenson of Terryville, CT and Joseph Heuschkel of Bennington, VT; five daughters, Ellen Coe (Richard) of Nantucket, MA, Eileen DaSilva (Kenneth); Margaret Szymanski (Paul); Elizabeth Cilfone (Michael) all of Torrington, CT; Kate Williams (Douglas) of Princeton, MA.

Patty was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived in Newtown, CT before retiring to Southport, NC. She was active in many sports including softball and swimming and had a special love for tennis both on and off the court. She was a member of the Newtown Woman’s group and Mahjong , Tennis and Vintage Ladies groups at St. James Plantation. Patty loved to be with her family and friends and was a kind, generous and remarkable person.

A Memorial service will be held at 12 noon, July 23, 2016 in Newtown, CT at the Newtown Meeting House.
