

March 20, 1938 - January 14, 2025
Sally Jean Sullivan, beloved wife of William J. Sullivan II, and twenty-year resident of St. James, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House LifeCare Center in Bolivia, NC. Sally will be remembered as a very special, loving mother to Collin and Stacey. Her love of God, family, country, friends, art, music and nature had no bounds. And everyone enjoyed the poetry she wrote and her outstanding sense of humor.
Sally was born in Milan, Indiana on March 20, 1938, the daughter of the late Gorton M. Arnold and Margaret Spencer Arnold Farmer. She graduated from Catonsville, MD High School in 1955 and Mary Washington College, in Fredericksburg, VA, in 1959, with a BA degree in Psychology. Sally's first job after college was as a social worker in Baltimore, MD.
Sally and Bill were married on August 12, 1961 in Funkstown, MD.
Sally taught elementary school special education in Maryland, second grade in Michigan and third grade in Indiana. She completed many post-graduate level courses at the University of Maryland, Wayne State University, Michigan State University and Indiana University.
Sally was a professional storyteller and formed storytelling guilds while living in Columbus, Indiana and Winchester, Virginia. She also worked as the activities director for a senior citizen housing facility while living in Winchester.
Sally is survived by her husband, William Sullivan; son, Collin Vail Sullivan and partner, Eric Roseff, in Boston, MA; and daughter, Stacey Jean Sullivan, in Wilmington, NC. Other survivors include Sally's older brother, Richard Spencer Arnold, in West Hartford, CT, in addition to numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Locally, Sally was a member of Ocean View United Methodist Church on Oak Island, NC and the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 939.
Sally was a military spouse, supporting Bill in his career of over 31 years in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve and U.S. Army Reserve. She enjoyed road travels and flying trips in their family planes with Bill, Collin and Stacey.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 in the St. James Chapel.
