Virginia Lewis McKinnon

She was born Virginia Theresa Foy on October 8, 1947 to the late Betty Lee Foy Washington and Henry Riggins Jr. in New Hanover County and was also known as “Foxy” by her close friends. She was a graduate of Williston Senior High School Class of 1965. She joined Price Cathedral AME Zion Church of Wilmington at an early age and later in life moved her membership to Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church on Castle Street. She served as a Buds of Promise Choir and enjoyed attending church.

Virginia was a free spirited person who loved to travel, shop, and spend time with family and friends. She had no problem expressing her strong conviction that no one should eat pork. As lived a vegetarian lifestyle and was always willing to share vegetarian recipes that inspired her.

She was married to the late Mr. Love A. McKinnon and left to cherish her precious memories are her son Ronnell Eugene Washington (Carolyn) of Charlotte; daughter Yolanda Yvette Lewis of Southport; sister Gwendolyn Foy Davis of Southport; brother Kenneth Jerome Foy of Wilmington; 5 grandchildren: Shannell Washington of Atlanta, Omar Lewis of Greenville, Cheyenne Lewis of Southport, Shaquan Beatty of Charlotte, Shaniqua Washington of Wilmington; 4 great-grandchildren, Marley Randolph and Dakota Dominic Towns Washington of Atlanta; Gavin Moore and Logan Walker of Wilmington; two nieces, MaShona Davis McAfee (Bunyan) of Charlotte, India Tajhi Foy of Greensboro, and nephew: Reginald Davis who was also known as “Nook” which was a nickname given to him by Mrs. Virginia (Shameka) of Concord, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. Keith Suttle and wife Lynn and their children Taylor Suttle Joyner and husband Ben and Cole Suttle also held a special place in Mrs. Virginia’s heart and will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, January 15, 2018 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service with Reverend Charles Drew officiating.
