Mr. Bartlow was born in Oakland, California on December 24, 1928. He was the eldest son of the late William W. Bartlow, Sr. and Constance Churchill Bartlow. Mr. Bartlow was married to Barbara Elaine Hartfield on June 25, 1995 in Richmond, California. They were married for 22 years. William was baptized into Christ at the Boiling Springs Church of Christ in Boiling Springs Lakes. Later he placed his membership at the Brunswick Church of Christ where he and his wife remained faithful until his death.
William joined the Merchant Marines in 1945, and retired in 1996 after 51 years. After retiring from the Merchant Marines, he worked seven years for the Brunswick County School System which he also retired from. He then went into business for himself as a Custodian, working for the Army Corp of Engineers in Wilmington for 10+ years. He loved to work in his yard, on his cars, and his house. William was constantly doing something. He could not stay still. His wish was to sell the house and move back to California, buy a pontoon boat, and go fishing on the Sacramento River. His last wish will be granted by spreading some of his ashes on the Sacramento River. He was a wonderful person, and had many, many friends. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his brother, Wilton Bartlow and sister, Annice Blodgett.
