
Fred was born in Brunswick County and resided for many years in Fayetteville, Cary, and then Southport. He was most recently a member of the congregation at the Southport Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member of the Shriners and the Amran Temple where he was active in the Oriental Band and involved with other fund raising activities for their charity involvement. He was a kind, warm-hearted man who never met a stranger and developed lasting friendships wherever he resided.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Essie Brown, sisters Kathleen Hewitt, Eva Mae Scott, Minaree McDaniel, Ruby Love Stout, and his wife Mildred Kirkman Brown.
He is survived by his wife Amaretta Prevatte, daughter Freda Brown McKenzie and family, son Jerry Brown and family, stepdaughters Penny Kirkman Sullivan and family, and Donna Prevatte Maynor and family. Also, stepsons Vick Kirkman and family, and Byron Kirkman and family. Fred enjoyed the many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who were part of his life.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, October 20, at Southport Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12-1pm at the church. Burial service will be performed at 12:00 on Wednesday, October 21, at the Lafayette Memorial Cemetery in Fayetteville, N.C.
