

Ronald Mixon Childree, born December 26, 1936, in Knoxville, TN, formerly of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully in Homestead, FL on December 22, 2024, with his friend and aide Rose by his side.
Ronnie, as his family called him, graduated from Murphy High School, Mobile, AL in 1953. He went on to the University of Alabama where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration in 1957. He received his Bachelor of Laws from Alabama in 1962. While at the University of Alabama he became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Alpha Psi, and Beta Gama Signa fraternities. Following his graduation at the University of Alabama, Ron received his second lieutenant’s commission with the Army and worked at the Pentagon for several years. In 1963, he completed his Master of Laws (Taxation) from New York University, and later became a State of Alabama Certified Public Accountant.
Returning home to Mobile, Ron joined the CPA firm of Childree, Gunn and Boggan where his dad was a senior partner. Ron left Alabama to take on a position at a bank in Fort Lauderdale, FL, making his family’s home in Plantation, FL. He eventually left the corporate world becoming self-employed in Plantation, receiving numerous accolades from the Greater Plantation Chamber of Commerce.
Ron married Barbara Jean Wall in Mobile, Alabama (1966). They later divorced. He married Dr. Christine Bruner in 1980. Together he and Christine raised five children: Jill (Childree) Hasty, Ronald) Childree (Clif), David Bruner, Todd Bruner and Alan Bruner.
Years later Ron sold his business and took up residence in Key Largo, FL. Ron and Christine became highly regarded community members, active in local organizations. As a member of The Rock Harbor Club Board of Directors, Ron served as treasurer for many years.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Lewie and Annie Bess Childree and his wife, Christine Bruner Childree. In addition to his and Christine’s children, Ron is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Over Ron’s lifetime, the water remained constant. An avid boater, Ron was happiest at the helm. Time spent with family always included the water, whether it be boating, fishing or snorkeling.
His children will get together this spring in Key Largo, FL for a final boat ride. Ron will be laid to rest in the family plot at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
