Barbara Munn Kitchin, a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 25, 2018 at the age of 89. Barbara was born on April 5, 1929 in Long Branch, N.J., and resided in Montclair, N.J., alongside her three siblings. She summered in Bay Head, N.J. as a child, and described herself as a tomboy who was never without a book to read. In 1953, she married A. Lloyd Kitchin Jr., and together they resided in the home they built in Towaco, N.J., for more than 50 years. In 2007, they moved to Mt. Arlington to be closer to family and their beloved Lake Hopatcong. Barbara worked as a bank teller before raising her two sons, A. Lloyd Kitchin III and Jeffrey B. Kitchin, who were the joys of her life. She was athletic, an avid tennis player who also took up paddle tennis and bowling. In addition to Lloyd and Jeff keeping her on her feet, she was regularly on the move with the family dogs and, eventually, her four grandchildren. She was active at the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, where she cheered for her family during their sailing races and socialized with many good friends. She loved to read, and volunteered at the Montville Public Library. And she was fiercely patriotic, regularly working at the polls on Election Day. She was predeceased by her parents, Archibald and Margaret Munn, her three siblings, Franklin, Margaret, and Archibald (“Sandy”), her son Jeffrey, and her husband, Lloyd. Survivors include her son, A. Lloyd Kitchin III and daughter-in-law, Carol; her four grandchildren, Jessica K. Murphy (Chris), Brian Kitchin (Catia), Douglas Kitchin (Alexa), and Gregory Kitchin (Elizabeth); and her five great-grandchildren, Arden, Nathan, Riley, Trevor, and Charlotte. As she spent many hours of her life caring for her beloved labs, and every birthday card she ever sent featured a cute animal, she would also want us to mention her five great-grand-dogs: Joe, Mitch, Charlie, Tex, and Olive. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, from 5 - 8PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, N.J. A graveside service will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, October 30 at Sparta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (www.lakehopatcongfoundation.org). And be sure to vote on Election Day, as she never took that right for granted.
