Brian spent 53 years married to his beautiful bride, Carla. Brian and Carla met on the stage of Essex Catholic performing one of many musicals they were in as kids. During his tenure at Essex Catholic, not only did he meet the love of his life, but also a core group of friends dubbed "The Essex Guys", who are still close to this day.
After highschool, Brian and Carla got married and had their first child, a son, James, all while attending Montclair University full time and working full time. With a burning desire to build a house outside of the city, Brian and Carla worked tirelessly to save and were able to build their dream home in Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
In 1976, they moved into their castle, a beautiful bi-level nestled in the woods, just a few months before their second child, a daughter, Meggan, was born. Brian and Carla welcomed their third child, a daughter, Christin, a few years later.
Brian was the Director of Operations at several companies throughout his career. From Children's Place, to Bindi and Iron Mountain, Brian's outside the box thinking was utilized to maintain the highest efficiency. He always loved a challenge, and his work reflected just that.
While work was a huge part of Brian's story, family is what ignited his heart. His three children gave he and Carla their most treasured gifts: grandchildren...7 of them. Brian, with the proudest smile and joyful tone, could speak endlessly about his grandkids accomplishments both big and small. Watching his eldest grandson, John, graduate from his Alma Mater, MSU, was a particular point of pride.
After his retirement, Brian and Carla sold their dream house, lovingly referred to as 72. 72 was the home to so many memories. Each room thoughtfully designed with love by 2 young marriers dreaming of their future together. That house saw birthdays, anniversaries, heartbreaks, first steps and finally the closing of a chapter.
After the sale of 72, Brian and Carla moved into Meggan and son-in-law David's house in Sparta. Each day was greeted by tiny grandkid hugs and screams of "POP!!!" every time he came upstairs. He loved sitting on the front porch with the family's doodles reading and communing with nature. Each afternoon, he would greet the kids, grand and not, as they all came home from school. He always had a cup of coffee in one hand a book in the other and a song lyric on his tongue.
Brian's love for his family was apparent in every conversation. So excited to see John begin his teaching career. Great anticipation to see what Caelen's Broadway Future looks like. Always excited to check in with Angel away at his first year of college pursuing his dreams. Just beaming with pride talking about Olivia's accomplishments and talking books. Listening attentively to Davey as he practiced his cello and always pumping him up afterward by calling him Mr. Ma. Being such a captive audience to Mary and Norah as they show him their latest Irish dance steps. He relished in every single second of it.
He was greeted by his parents James and Mae and brother, Michael and best furry friend, Sully. Brian is survived by Beloved wife Carla Mahoney(nee Montano), children James and daughter-in-law Kelly, Meggan and son-in-law Dave and Christin, sister Marian and brother-in-law Bruce and little sister Sandy, and his seven cherished grandchildren, John, Caelen, Angel, Olivia, David, Mary and Norah as well as 7 nieces and nephews. Brian was a larger than life personality who always had great advice, could sing like an angel and gave the best bear hugs.
Brian lived by the phrase, "Life is Good". He sure did live a good life.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Kateri church 427 Stanhope Rd, Sparta, NJ 07871.
