

Helene W. Larson, 74 of Sparta, daughter of the late Louis and Helen Weihe of Hoboken, passed away peacefully on January 7th with her family by her side at Newton Memorial Hospital. Helene is survived by her husband of 50 years, John F. Larson (Jack); her son, John C. Larson (Charlie); her daughter, Allene L Curd and husband Tyler Curd; her sisters Barbara Jost and Edna Moriarty. Helene was born and raised in Hoboken, NJ and spent her summers in Lake Mohawk, NJ. Helene was married in 1963 and moved to Sparta permanently shortly after and continued to reside in Sparta until she passed.
Helene was a 1956 graduate of A.J. Demarest High School in Hoboken and 1959 graduate of Jersey City State College where she received her BS degree in Education. Helene taught 2nd grade at David E. Rue Elementary School in Hoboken, NJ from 1959 until 1970, then she stayed home to raise her two children. Helene loved being a mother to her children and their friends. Helene also taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta for many years.
Family and friends were her greatest joy and she never missed a birthday or special event. Her loving personality and sense of humor will be forever missed.
The family will be holding services on Friday, January 17, 2014 at The First Presbyterian Church of Sparta on 32 Main St., Sparta, NJ. Visitation will be from 2:30-4:00pm followed by a memorial service at 4pm. Donations can be made in Helene's honor to the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, The American Cancer Society or the Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
