John Gilbert Brinkley II

John Gilbert Brinkley ll, 75, died peacefully on May 27, 2016 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. John was born in New Hanover County, NC and was a resident of Sparta for 25 years before moving back to North Carolina 1 year ago. John deeply loved his family, community and country. He served our country in the US Navy, receiving medals in both the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He always found joy in fishing and spending time on the water. As a resident of Sparta; John was a member of the Sparta Elks Club and an active member of St. Kateri Church. Upon returning to Wilmington John rejoined the Masonboro Baptist Church. John is predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol Jean Brinkley. He is survived by his wife Susan Brinkley. Father of John G. Brinkley lll and Lisa Bryans-Mistretta. Father-in-law to Honey Brinkley and Anthony Mistretta. Loving grandfather of Krystal Poelstra, Brooke Poelstra, Alexandra Bryans, John G. Brinkley lV and Julia Brinkley. Friends may call 7-9pm Thursday at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral service will be held at graveside, 10am Friday at Sparta Cemetery, Sparta, NJ 07871.
