Joseph D. Hart of Sparta passed away on May 15, 2023 after a brave and courageous battle with leukemia (MDS). He was 89 years old. Joe was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 19, 1934 to the late Katherine (O’Brien) and Frank P. Hart. He was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School and a U.S. Army veteran. Joe worked for IBM for 33 years in both NYC and NJ in various levels of management in operations and finance.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy R. Hart (Gunn) and their children Daniel M. Hart, Thomas Hart (Deb), Dorothy Hart Dmuchowski (John) and Robert Hart (Jennifer). He was predeceased by his oldest son Joseph K. Hart (Amy).
He leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Conor, Katie Johnson (Logan), Ryan, Christopher, Maryanne,Theresa, Lucas, Greg, Matthew (fiancée Christielee), Jennifer, Megan Hamilton (Chad),Nicole and Kristin (fiancée Drew). They live in various states throughout the U.S.
He was predeceased by his siblings Daniel J. Hart, Mary T. Hart, Catherine Hall (Bill), William Hart (Joan) and Frank Hart (Pat).
Among other things, he will be remembered for his love for his wife and family.
His family is grateful to the Sparta Cancer Care Center staff and Dr. May Abdo- Matkiwsky for the compassionate care provided during his final years.
Visitation will be under the direction of the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street in Sparta on Sunday, May 21st from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 22nd at 11:00 am at St. Kateri Roman Catholic Church, 427 Stanhope Road in Sparta. A private interment will be at the Sparta Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
