

Richard D. Moriarty, of Jersey City, NJ died on October 30,2013 at his home in Sparta, NJ. He was 68. He was born on March 20, 1945, at Jersey City Medical Center. He attended St. Bridget’s School until 1958, graduated St. Peter’s Prep in 1962, and graduated St. Peter’s College in 1966. In 1964, he married Edna Claire Weihe; they raised their 6 children in Glen Ridge, NJ and spent their summers at Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ.
He began working at Arthur Andersen in 1966 and was a tax partner from 1978 to 2002. Upon retirement, he became a co-owner of Resource NJ, a commercial flooring company.
He taught accounting at Jersey City State College from 1969 to 1975.
He served on the board at Bergen Center for Child Development, where his daughter Susan attended for 8 years, of which 5 he was president.
He was a member of the Glen Ridge Board of Education from 1982 to 1989, of which he was the president for 3 years. He enjoyed delivering the diplomas at the high school graduations of his children, grandchildren and friends.
He was a member at Sparta United Methodist Church for over 20 years and volunteered on many committees, including president of the board of trustees.
He loved to play golf, softball, basketball, tennis, snow ski and water ski. He loved playing poker, traveling abroad and was known for his dancing and magic tricks.
One of his accomplishments was starting the first public 4 year old Pre-Kindergarten in New Jersey and a full day Kindergarten at Forest Avenue School and Linden Ave School.
His favorite vacation spot was Rum Point on Cayman Island where he loved to scuba dive, swim with Stingrays, eat Captain Marvin’s famous fresh marinated conch and watch sunsets with his family.
Richard was an extremely kind and generous man. He will be missed by many.
Richard is survived by his wife, and his children, Richard, Susan, Mimi, Brendian, Katie, and Craig and his 14 Grandchildren. He loved to spend time with his family.
A private memorial service will be held under the direction of the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ.A private memorial service will be held at Sparta United Methodist Church. A day of celebration will be held at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club on November 3, 2013.
