

Sparta- Warren W. Fredericks 91, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Bristol Glen Retirement Community in Newton. He was born in Oak Ridge, NJ to J. Waldo and Mae Fredericks (Shenise).
He served his country proudly with the United States Marine Corps during WW II having served his tours of duty attaining rank of Gunnery Sergeant aboard the USS Brooklyn, participated in the first expedition force to Iceland, saw action on Iwo Jima, and the occupation forces of Japan.
A lifelong resident of Sussex County, he was a well known government and community leader. Warren began his long and distinguished career as a member of the Sparta Police Department in 1950, Tax collector and treasurer for Sparta Township from 1952-57. He was nominated in 1959 by President Eisenhower and confirmed by the US Senate as Postmaster in the US Post Office, Sparta, where he served until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Fredericks continued his employment for 37 plus years as a court officer for the superior court of Sussex County with the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department. He also held memberships in the Sparta Rotary Club, and Lions Club. He was also a life member of the Sparta VFW POST #7248, and Sussex County Marine Corps League. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors as an avid golfer and hunter, and was a longtime member of the Franklin Rifle and Revolver Association, whom hold an annual competition in his honor.
Predeceasing him is his wife, Marion (2001), and two brothers; J. Waldo and Cliff Fredericks.
Surviving him is his son; Thomas and wife Julia of Winston-Salem NC, a daughter; Debra and husband Paul Matyas of Lake Hopatcong, a sister; Mary Brady of Winchester, Ma.
Family and friends are invited Thursday 5-7 PM to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ 07871. A service will be held 11 AM, Friday at Bristol Glen Retirement Community, Newton, followed by 1:30 PM graveside interment at North Hardyston Cemetery. Memorial contributions are being accepted to the United Methodist Home Fellowship Fund at Bristol Glen Retirement Community 200 Bristol Glen Dr, Newton, NJ 07860. The family would like to thank the management and the Harris Center nursing staff at Bristol Glen for their dedicated and compassionate service to our Dad over these past seven years.
