

Arthur passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 2, 2011. He was born on February 9, 1921 in Lansford, North Dakota to Verdenny and Mary (Greathouse) Davis and moved to Spokane at age two where he has lived his whole life. Arthur proudly served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945, earning several medals. In 1950, Arthur married the love of his life, Virginia and together they had three children. Arthur worked for Murphy Bros. Construction for over 32 years as an operating engineer. He was a member of the VFW and the Operating Engineers Union. Arthur was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His passions were his family, fishing, hunting, golfing and working in his gardens. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (1991); his daughter, Linda Penniman; son-on-law, Gary Colwell and his grandson and namesake, Arthur William Colwell. In 1995, he reunited and was blessed to spend his last years with Addie Flaig. He is survived by his two daughters, Anna Colwell of Lebanon, OR and Maryann and Jerry Canterbury of Spokane, WA; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:00AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 East Broadway Avenue, Spokane, WA followed by a luncheon. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 1:00PM at Pines Cemetery.
