Carl was born on August 11, 1931, to Clarence (Duffy) and Gladys Dahl. He was raised on the family farm near the Spokane River in Greenacres. As a young boy, Carl, along with his siblings, helped work the family farm and learned to swim in the Spokane River. He often spoke of picking tomatoes that were sold to a local cannery and walking to Liberty Lake and hitch-hiking to Coeur D’Alene to go swimming. Carl attended high school at Central Valley graduating in 1949. He was an excellent athlete and played basketball on a team that played in the state championships. Carl received a basketball scholarship and attended Gonzaga University before leaving school to follow the love of his life to Denver, Colorado where they were married on July 13, 1952, and then had 3 children. He spent his career working for Inland Asphalt where he was promoted to superintendent and eventually General Manager. Carl was highly respected in his field and received several highway paving awards as a Superintendent. In his retirement, he loved golf and was an active member of Manito Country Club. His true love in life, though, was his family. He was a truly giving man. There was never too big a favor or chore he would do for family or friends.
Carl was preceded in death by both parents (Duffy and Gladys) and 5 of his 6 siblings (Robert, Claire Derning, Willard, Bruce, and Patsy Strohmaier). Carl leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Margie, and children Jody (Mark) Jappert, Patti (Dave) Carter, and Mike (Sheila) Dahl, sister Lois Abbott, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, 1 pm, at Thornhill Valley Chapel located at 1400 S Pines Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
