Chrystal E Morgan was born in Woodland, Washington on February 15, 1920. When she was six years old, the family moved to Spokane where her father attended the school of Divinity at Spokane University. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1938. She worked at John W Graham Co and then at Shriner’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon until moving to Grandview where she became co-director of Child Evangelism. She subsequently did the same work in Yakima and then Spokane. She founded Morgan’s Church and Home Book and Bible Store which she ran for several years. She also went to work for Leo’s Studio until retirement in 1988 to care for her ailing mother.
She was a founding member of Carey Memorial Baptist Church in Veradale and was the church librarian. She was active in the Christian Library Association. She was particularly interested in promoting world missions and had missionary friends in many countries.
In February 2001 Chrystal suffered a stroke following heart by-pass surgery which resulted in the inability to walk and lack of speech. Although unable to speak, her mind remained sharp and she was able to communicate effectively. She lived at Sunshine Gardens Nursing Care and Rehabilitation until her death. While there she received excellent care and delighted the staff with her sense of humor and expressions of thanks.
Chrystal was preceded in death by her brother, Laurence (commonly known as Leo). She is survived by her sister-in-law, Troas, her niece and nephews, Julie and Ernie Tanner of Spokane, John and Linda Morgan of Snoqualmie, Jerry and Suzanne Morgan of Renton and their children, Brittany and Trevor. Memorials are requested to be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translations, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862. A memorial service will be held at 2:15pm, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Sunshine Gardens, 10410 E 9th Ave, Spokane Valley.
