

Cleona Imogene Duty, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Spokane Valley, WA on February 4, 2021 following a 14-year courageous battle against Parkinson’s disease. She was born January 22, 1935 in Sagle, ID, to Glenn and Evelyn Taylor. She was raised in Sagle and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1954. She married her husband Claude Duty on October 7, 1956, in Spokane. The couple moved to Coeur d’ Alene, ID, in 1957, then later moved to Sagle, returning to Spokane in 1962. Cleona ran a successful home day care center for over 23 years, nurturing and caring for many children. She was a lifelong active member in the Community of Christ Church and was also active as a SCOPE volunteer. Cleona loved gardening, canning and cooking as well as sewing and cross stitch. Cleona was also an incredible Yahtzee player and enjoyed putting together puzzles. Later in life, one of her favorite pastimes was watching her beloved Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday evenings. Cleona was an avid walker and enjoyed walking Bloomsday for many years with family members. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law who enjoyed planning family gatherings. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Survivors include her husband of 64 years Claude Duty, her daughters Lori Brewer (husband Walt), Julie Scott (husband Jim), sons Jeff Duty and Todd Duty (wife Trisha), grandchildren Brandon Brewer, Chad Brewer and Cleo Duty. She is also survived by her brother Ed Taylor of Sagle, ID, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Cleona was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Evelyn Taylor, her sister Elenor Robertson, and her brothers Cliff and James Taylor. Cleona will always be remembered as a quiet, sweet and gentle soul with a huge heart. Many heartfelt thanks go out to her doctors, care givers and Kindred Hospice for their care and compassion. Due to COVID restrictions graveside and memorial services will be set for a later date. To celebrate Cleona’s life, please extend a random act of kindness to others.
