Ever a man with a huge grin and a huge heart, Cliff has touched the lives of many.
From the years he spent serving in the Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific to his decades serving the greater Spokane community as a dispensing optician at Western Optical and Group Health, Cliff made a lasting impression on those around him. He was known as a kind, thoughtful, generous person you could trust to give heartfelt advice, fix anything that was broken, and tell you to clean your glasses if they were dirty.
He was always willing and eager to learn new things – in fact there’s nothing he wouldn’t try – and to share his expertise in carpentry and woodworking with those around him.
Cliff was born in Ione, WA on November 15, 1940, but soon moved with his family to Edmonds, WA, where he spent the majority of his childhood and young adult life. After joining the Navy, working and starting a family, he moved to Spokane, where he made his permanent home.
Cliff asked his current wife, Arlene, to dance after they met by chance at the Red Lion in Spokane Valley. That dance led to 40 years of marriage and memories that his family will always cherish.
Cliff was preceded in death by his son, Brian Legg; grandson, Brandon Legg; and daughter, Shelley Calhoun.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Calhoun; his sons, Randy (Lori) and Cory (Liz) Legg; grandchildren, Kayla Hale and Andrew and Zoe Legg. In addition, Cliff is survived by his mother, Bertha Calhoun; sister, Tamara Calhoun (Alden); son, Curtis Calhoun; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Jacob Calhoun; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Calhoun.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 22nd at 1pm at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Cliff will be interred next to his son and grandson at Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley.
