

Frank, or Russ as he was known to many, is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia Lee Mace; three children, Russell Frank Mace of Cheney, WA, Lenard L. Mace of Spokane Valley, WA and Sara Kay Mace/DeLong of St. John, WA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred M. Nickelson. He is also survived by one sister, Alice Lockhart who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, as well as nieces and nephews. Frank was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and lived in that area until his parents Samuel and Goldie Mace moved the family to the Deer Park , WA area and then later to Medical Lake where Frank graduated from high school in 1937. Frank was a Prisoner of War for 44 months having been captured on Wake Island shortly following the WWII attack at Pearl Harbor. Upon returning home, he met and married Marcia Lee Peterson of Four Lakes, WA on April 11, 1946. Frank spent many years in the construction industry, worked in real estate, and later after a very serious accident which prevented his return to construction work, completed his BA degree in Education at EWU and taught high school shop and math classes in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, until he retired in 1988. For the past 65 years he has lived in Four Lakes, Cheney, and Spokane and then returned to Cheney for the last 15 years. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Cheney Care Center, Hospice of Spokane, the VA Hospital, the American Ex-Prisoners of War, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart for the excellent care provided in the final few years of Frank’s life. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 1:00PM at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley Avenue, Spokane, WA 99205. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane.
