

Davis, Lawrence “Ken” (age 79) was born on April 30, 1930 to Frank and Myrtle Davis in Cabot, AR and passed away February 4, 2010 in Spokane, WA following his battle with lung disease. Ken grew up on a cotton farm in Arkansas, the youngest of nine children. It was a hard life but taught him the importance of hard work and a loving family. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, golfing, dancing, playing cards and helping out in many Masonic and civic organizations. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mitzi; daughters, Vicki (John) Chamberlain of Spokane, Kathy Jo (Terry) Rangno of Los Angeles, CA, and Pam Kelly of Spokane; his grandchildren: Blake, Cole, and Candice Kelly, all of Spokane; his sister Mildred Glover of Little Rock, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, AR then joined the Air Force which brought him to Spokane where he met Mitzi Gershmel on a blind date. They were married on December 6, 1952. The couple went to Fayetteville, AR where Ken earned his Master’s degree in Economics at the University of Arkansas. Ken and Mitzi returned to Spokane where Ken worked several years for Union Oil then went to work for the Farm Credit Banks in 1962. He retired in 1985 after 23 years of service. Ken was a youth bowling instructor and coached little league baseball teams for a number of years. Once his 3 girls were old enough, he taught them all to bowl which became a family pastime. He is a Past President of the Valley Moose, Past Master of Concordia Lodge #249, and a Past Patron of Magnolia Chapter #194, OES. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Past Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection, assisting with the Scottish Rite Rose Croix Funeral Team for many years. Ken belonged to El Katif Shrine where his involvement with the Shrine Circus committee eventually led to his appointment as Chairman for 6 years, after which he was honored with the title of Chairman Emeritus. A memorial service will be held at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206 on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rite Care or the Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund, El Katif Shrine. All funds can be mailed to 1108 W.
