The world lost one of the all-time greatest storytellers when Lyle Hatcher died unexpectedly on August 31, 2021. Lyle was born to Ron and Hazel Hatcher on October 25, 1955, in Spokane, Washington. As soon as he could talk, he was charming everyone around him with his bigger than big stories – that got bigger and bigger as he got bigger! He attended Linwood Elementary, Greenacres Junior High and Central Valley High School where he made lifelong friends on the mat/field, in the classroom and on the dance floor.
From a child riding his bike all over Five Mile when it was ‘wild territory’ to an angler always ready with a baited pole to a backpacker hiking in Glacier carrying a canoe on his back to volunteering for Search and Rescue, Lyle was an outdoors man who loved nature, animals, and conquering the most rugged of terrains for a chance to sleep under the stars. His gift of gab brought him success in his careers as a realtor, in the financial industry, and as a book writer/movie producer of Different Drummers. In his ‘retirement’, he took care of family and friends—always running errands, doing repairs, cutting down trees, or just checking in.
Lyle loved his family fiercely. A devoted son, brother, husband, dad, and grandpa, he treasured his parents, in laws, and elderly/all friends making sure everyone was taken care of and safe. From the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the top of the Mayan Ruins, Lyle and Maria were world travelers—their greatest adventure was being together. He adored his boys—magically playing, ‘rassling’, and dancing, while coaching, mentoring, and encouraging kids all around him.
Along with his parents, he is survived by his loving wife Maria, sons Paul and Ben, stepsons Blake and Jordan Baker, daughters-in-law Jenne, Mallory, and Anastasia, grandchildren Riley, Michael, Brooks and Owen, father-in-law Leonard Parenteau, sister Linda (Rich) Thompson, sisters-in-law Mindy Hatcher, Renee Parenteau, and Melanie Parenteau, brother-in-law Michael Parenteau, many nieces and nephews and their children, extended family and friends, and his Big Roy.
He is preceded in death by his brother Steve Hatcher, mother-in-law Yvonne Parenteau, and brother-in-law Scott Fry.
There will be a private family gathering now with plans for a ‘big/bigger/biggest’ celebration of Lyle’s life at a later date. In remembrance of him today, wear blue, fix something, and tell someone an incredible story—the bigger the better!
Donations in Lyle’s honor may be made to Intermountain Search Dogs at www.intermountainsearchdogs.org.
