Dear Sharpes,
I have  very special memories of your mother. She played a significant role in my upbringing. She was so kind and generous. She always helped me on the fiddle. She basically taught me how to play a dance. She helped me choose songs at contests if I made the cut. I also remember the times Mom and I would come over to visit at the house in the valley. Mary and Mom would drink cups and cups of coffee and talk. I sat and listened and it was here I learned there were positive ways of looking at just about anything. 
As a musician, Mary was top rate. She could play for any dance. Sometimes your mom, my folks, and I would show up at a dance where the crowd was a little slow to start and not too sure about us. By the middle of the first set, your mom usually had the majority of the crowd up and dancing. This made the rest of the night a cinch to play, and by the end of the dance everyone loved Mary! They loved how your mom danced every time she played her fiddle. They thought it was part of the show, but we all knew It was an impossibility for her to stand still when she played.

Mary, you are the reason I began playing the fiddle. Mom and Dad saw you play at a PTA meeting at Field Elementary when I was in third grade. All my fiddle experiences are because of you. You will forever fiddle and dance in my memories. Love, Connie Bonar Greenberg

A Mary Sharpe Memory

I was a rock 'n roll and country music drummer, and in the 70's Mary would recommend me to bands who needed a drummer. I meet many of the local musicians and singers and got to play many years with the Country Edition lead by Gary Stewart with Earl Moe and Ray Anderson. Also, The Country Tradition lead by Ken Vandreripe, with Craig Snider, and Tim Sharpe.

But the best recommendation Mary made was to Alberta.
I bowled in Imperial Lanes at 5 mile shopping center and would be finished about 6:30 then go over to the Eagles lodge on Francis Ave. There would be Mary, Al, and Swed  playing some of the all time favorites for the older crowd. Songs from the 30's, 40's, 50's and dance tunes like the Polka, Varsovienne, Schottische and Waltz. They would let me "sit in" a few tunes while Mary skillfully played some great old time country on her fiddle. 

Anyway,  Mary thought a nice woman named Alberta should meet a nice guy named Jerry, who came to the Eagles most every Sunday. Yes we did meet, and we have been together for 36 years.
It's been a wonderful gig. Thank you Mary.

Mom, you came to me in my dreams last night.  I was so happy to see you walking that Mary Sharpe shuffle, laughing like nobody ever has and hugging all of those children.  And you could see!  Keep the visits coming Mom....my door is always open!!!

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. I'm sending you a hug from afar.

All God's Blessings to Mary's wonderful family at this time.  It was  so nice to have Mary faithfully at the Valley Eagles to hear and support her son Tim.  Tim's obvious love and admiration for her was always a personal and joyful part of the evening.  He would often mention her and sometimes call her to the front to play .  What an amazing gift she had; truly awesome!  Mary's family is blessed to have had such a beloved woman as part of the family.

Mary Sharpe, what a Blessing & Inspiration …. I know I am not the only one taken into the fold and treated as one of the family, but she sure made me feel like I was her favorite, she was just like that, wasn't she? She would tell me “You couldn't be more like one of my own if I'd given birth to you”. I will carry, that, her laughter, her vibrant spirit and that funny little twitter she would whistle; in my heart for ever.

May God be with you at this time and in the future. Became acquainted with Mary by attending the NW Fiddle contests first held in the valley, then at SFCC,and later at various high schools. God bless us for getting to keep our Moms far longer than most people ever get the chance to.  You know she had to have been very proud of all of you today for such a wonderful celebration of her life.

We remember Mary as the daughter of 'Scuffy' Ritchie when we lived on Alderson Lane in Bonners Ferry in the 50's & 60's. We remember Mary visiting her Mam & playing the 'fiddle' for us. What a force of nature! And so much fun! We are still in Bonners & still miss Scuffy. She was SO proud of her daughter & never missed an opportunity to brag about her. Our condolences to her family.

I love you, Mary, my second mom, my girlfriend.  Fond, fond memories of our many "girl talk" visits and jam sessions. Thank you for giving my Dad and grandson drum lessons. And thank you for your forever and always warm, welcoming, loving hugs and, of course, that endless bowl of "Noodlie Annie." You generously and lovingly nourished and encouraged all of us.
