Bill passed away on May 23, 2025 after a one-week hospital stay. He was surrounded by his family. Bill was born on November 29, 1942 to Frank V. and Clara P. Simons. He graduated from Central Valley High School in l961. Bill joined the Army shortly after high school and received an honorable discharge. He then attended technical school and became a hydraulic specialist. He was multi-talented in many areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his sisters Mary Whiting and Barbara Schanz, his nephews Christopher Schanz and Matthew Schanz (Deniece), great nephew Dylan Schanz and great niece Emma Schanz.
Bill is remembered as a kind soul who greeted you with a big smile. With the exception of his military service, he was a lifelong resident of Spokane. He always made the effort, even after working long hours, to attend family functions and enjoy a good meal together. In his later years he became an urban cyclist and could be found riding the Centennial Trail and areas around Spokane near his home for many years. Bill spent his later years at Brighton Court Assisted Living where he was well known for his blue jeans and flannel shirts. While there he took long walks using his walker and always stopped to feed the birds. The family extends our thanks to the staff at Brighton Court for their care and concern.
There will be a graveside service for Bill at Riverside Cemetery on June 25, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with military honors.
