Candy Jane Lochmiller (Kanzler) passed away September 22, 2016 at Holy Family Hospital due to a short but courageous battle with cancer. Candy was born on March 7, 1951 to Aaron and Harriet Kanzler in Spokane, Washington. She was a lifelong resident of Spokane and attended Rogers High School, where she graduated in 1969. Candy met her husband, Dennis, on an April Fool’s Day blind date in 1978 and they were married in October. Candy and Dennis welcomed their son, Chad, in November 1979. She most recently embraced her role as a grandmother to grandson, Liam. After high school, Candy attended Glen Dow Academy to become a hair stylist. She later worked at J.C. Penny – Shadle Center and Prudential Insurance. Most recently, Candy worked for Spokane Public Schools at Regal Elementary School and before that Lidgerwood Elementary School. Referred to as “Miss Candy” by students and teachers, she worked in a variety of roles and completed nearly 30 years of service. Candy loved working with students as she aspired to become an elementary school teacher. She was a former member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Spokane. She loved to read, bake, and spend time with family and friends. Those who knew Candy always said she didn’t know a stranger, as she greeted everyone with a warm smile, engaging laugh, and loving hug. Candy is survived by her husband Dennis, son Chad and daughter-in-law Jessica (Bloomington, Indiana), grandson William “Liam” Lochmiller, Sisters Jeanne Stebner (Bellingham, Washington) and Jo Ann Simmons (Spokane, Washington), mother-in-law Olivia Lochmiller (Oak Harbor, Washington), brother-in-law Martin Lochmiller (Hercules, California), brother-in-law Ray Stebner (Bellingham, Washington).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Spokane Public Schools’ Foundation or that new childrens’ books be given in Candy’s memory to the Regal Elementary School library. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 11th at 11:30 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park, Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane WA.
