Beloved Husband, Dad & Papa passed away February 11th after a gallant six year battle with carcinoid cancer. Despite many treatments, tests and trials Dave kept up his determination, uncomplaining with a sense of humor, and a quick “Jim Dandy” when asked how he was doing.
Dave was born in Port Angeles, WA the son of Marcella (Toni) and Edward (Ted) Hutchison. He attended Port Angeles High School lettering in tennis which became a lifetime passion. After graduating in 1963 Dave enlisted in the US Navy and served as Radarman third class aboard the SS Estes off the coast of Vietnam. In 1967 after completing his military service he enrolled in the electrical engineering program at Olympic College, Bremerton. His continued education opened the door to a career in the telecommunications field in Seattle at Pacific Northwest Bell. In 1978 Dave and family transferred to Spokane. It was the beginning of dramatic changes in the telephone industry; not only company name changes but the introduction of new engineering styles and fiber optics. During those years Dave made many lifelong friends at “Ma Bell”. In 2006, Dave retired from Century Link.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara (Majeski) also of Port Angeles where the couple married in 1969. Son Kiley Hutchison (Jen Snyder) have 3 daughters Ella, Allie and Emily. Daughter Jenn Hutchison (Otto Mock) have 2 sons Owen and Oakley. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He coached in the SYSA youth soccer program until 1989 and assisted in junior league baseball. He introduced his grandchildren to golf, tennis, swimming and last summer, waterskiing on Long Lake.
In retirement Dave enjoyed travel, fishing, golf and tennis but the highlight of these activities was the many friends he made and the large family he cherished. He was determined to complete the update to their current home and with the help of the family, friends and very special friend, Bob, he did. Dave left everyone and everything better for his staying true to who he was… a kind, loving, respectful man with a heartfelt laugh even in the most troubling times.
Online memories and tributes may be made through the Ball & Dodd website. Donations to the Ronald McDonald House RMCH Inland NW are being accepted in Dave’s memory.
A Private burial will be held at the Washington State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
