David Niemeyer passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025. He was born on February 26, 1956, in Spokane, WA to Orville B. (OB) Niemeyer and Doris Gaustad. The third of four children, David grew up in Spokane, where his early years included time spent in Cheney and the Hayford Community. He graduated from Cheney High School. At age 15, David became a dishwasher at the Longhorn BBQ. His restaurant career excelled to Cook, then the Lead in Catering. He married the love of his life, Capris Perry on February 28,1977. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming three daughters, a testament to the strong foundation of love and family they shared. In December 2019, David unexpectedly was diagnosed with a heart condition and had to retire from the Longhorn BBQ in January 2020.
David had a deep love for his family. He was known for always talking about his grandkids and his two great grand babies. He also loved his time spent with his brother, Paul, sharing their interests in tractors. He spent his remaining years living with family, taking care of grandkids, watching wrestling in his favorite recliner, and being useful anywhere he could be. He enjoyed many adventures in the camp trailer and was always happy to BBQ for his family. Whether he was shooting pool, working on a puzzle, or doing a home DIY project, it was always with a smile because he finally got to do what he wanted to at his leisure. As we all know, nobody deserved that more than him. They don't build 'em like David anymore. Strong, classic, and dependable...like an old Chevy truck.
His hard working, patient and calm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his father, OB Niemeyer and sister, Karen Lynch.
David is survived by his mother, Doris Niemeyer, brothers John Niemeyer and Paul Niemeyer and sister-in-law, Laurie Niemeyer. His children, daughter Christina (Christy) Holt and her husband Aaron Holt, daughter Jennifer (Jenny) Slaughter and her husband, Rick Slaughter, and daughter, Amanda (Mandy) Cool.
He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
David's life was a testament to love, laughter, service, and country music. He will be deeply missed.
